Jewelry Made from Horse or Pet Hair

If you have always wanted a wearable keepsake of your beloved

horse or pet, consider having a tiny bit of his or her hair embedded

in resin jewelry!

Send me a small bit of your animal's hair, and I will embed it in clear resin in the shaped pendant mold of your choice.  I use a high-quality resin which dries crystal clear. 

I have successfully made jewelry with the hair/fur of horses, cats, dogs, rats, and pot-bellied pigs.  I have found that feathers lose the ability to reflect light and therefore lose their colors, so I do not recommend having your pet bird's feathers embedded in resin unless you are wanting  an ethereal, monochromatic, transparent look.

To make necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, I attach bails to enable the pendant to hang from a neckchain or cord, a toggle-clasp bracelet, or earring hooks.  To make rings, no bail is attached and the pendant is glued directly to an adjustable ring.

How to collect hair:

 

BE CAREFUL!  Use round-nosed or bandage scissors

to cut the hair, and keep well away from where the

hair meets the skin, to protect your furry friend.  

Choose a time when your horse or pet is calm and

less likely to move around.

 

Horse hair:  From the tail or mane, select the

cleanest hairs representing your horse's coloring.

Hair should be between 2 and 6 inches long, and

when grouped should be about as big around as a

pencil.  Ensure hair is dry; do not wash the hair

prior to or after cutting.  

 

Pet hair:  From an area where the hair is longest

(usually the tail, back, ears, chest, tummy, or back of

legs), select the cleanest hairs representing your

pet's coloring.  Hair should be between 1/2 inch and

3 inches long, and when grouped should be about as

big around as your little finger.  Ensure hair is dry;

do not wash the hair prior to or after cutting. 

 

Place the hair in a Ziplock-type plastic baggie.  Mark

the baggie with your animal's name, by writing it on

the baggie with a permanent marker or writing it on

a note and placing it in the baggie.

If you want more than one pendant attached to a

bracelet (like a charm bracelet, for example), I can

do that!  I can also:

• attach or embed silver horse or pet charms (I have dog bones, standing cats and sitting cats, rats, and I can find others if you have a request). 
• attach a watch pendant; I usually have heart-shaped ones on hand but can find others on request). 
• attach the pendant to a pet-tag clip that could be hung from the collar or halter of your pet's friend.
